A look back at Franklin’s Gardens events in 2019

At Franklin’s Gardens, 2019 was an unforgettable year for everyone who came to events with us at our Northamptonshire venue.

From the incredible outdoor cinema experiences to Madness and Nile Rodgers concerts, we also hosted a Tough Mudder as an outdoor venue where so many people pushed themselves for a good cause. And, of course, all the amazing parties you’ve been a part of.

2020 event venues have been on pause for a while now. To fill the huge Franklin’s Gardens-shaped hole in our hearts, we’ve decided to look back through the memories of 2019.

This year’s summer has been interrupted. So, where better to start than with last year’s outdoor cinema.

Outdoor Cinema

On Thursday 20th & Friday 21st June, we transformed our Franklin’s Gardens venue in Northampton into an open-air cinema. Our team set up the state-of-the-art cinema screen in front of the Church’s Stand.

On night one, cinema guests were treated to the Oscar-winning Bohemian Rhapsody. It was a musical night on the Friday too with The Greatest Showman, one of the most iconic musicals from recent years.

With blankets wrapped around them sitting on camping chairs on the turf, around 2000 people per night sang along to Queen and The Greatest Show. Northampton Saints’ on-site bars and food stands provided refreshments throughout.

All film aficionados in attendance loved every second of both nights at our makeshift cinematic outdoor venue.

Bohemian Rhapsody is a celebration of the legendary band Queen. Especially, their iconic lead singer Freddie Mercury, portrayed by Rami Malek. The actor won an Oscar for his incredible performance of the celebrated Queen frontman.

While The Greatest Showman is a smash-hit musical that showcases Hugh Jackman at his charismatic best. That night Franklin’s Gardens was a feel-good celebration. All filmgoers were treated to the now-iconic songs of this worldwide film sensation.

Tough Mudder

At Franklin’s Gardens, we know that Rugby is the ultimate team sport. But last summer, we realised that Tough Mudder is not far behind.

Tough Mudder is one of the most popular endurance events in the UK. Last summer many Saints supporters, adrenaline junkies, and fitness freaks tested themselves on the Franklin’s Gardens turf. Around 1,200 people took part across the whole event.

Tough Mudder is an untimed teamwork fitness challenge. Our event in 2019 was the first time that a Tough Mudder event took place in a sports stadium – and they couldn’t have chosen a better stadium to start with. The event was part of the 5K Urban series and featured 13 challenging obstacles only possible to conquer with teamwork.

Madness & Nile Rodgers

Last summer at Franklin’s Gardens was astonishing for music fans. Nile Rodgers is one of the most-iconic guitarists of all time.

He has written, produced, and performed on albums that have sold over 500 million units. Not to mention 75 million singles worldwide, too.

Music lovers got to hear some of his biggest hits performed live on the turf and in the stands.

Some of the iconic tunes performed included ‘Le Freak’, ‘Good Times’, ‘Everybody Dance’ and ‘I Want Your Love’. Nile was joined by the world-renowned DJ, Sigalam as the two reunited after their 2016 summer anthem, ‘Give Me Your Love’.

Sigala has over a billion streams across all platforms. The two joined forces to create an unforgettable night for almost 10,000 people inside Franklin’s Gardens.

As well as Nile Rodgers, legendary band Madness graced the Franklin’s Gardens stage. The band celebrated their 40th anniversary with an immense summer tour.

Madness are among the top-20 selling UK groups of all time. Around 10,500 people flooded into the Gardens to see the band perform their endless catalogue of hits, such as ‘Baggy Trousers’, ‘It Must Be Love’, ‘Driving in My Car’, ‘Our House’, and ‘House of Fun’.

Madness has seen 15 of their singles reach the UK top ten. It’s undeniable they’ve had a massive impact on the pop culture of Britain. The band hold a decade record, alongside UB40, for the most time in the UK singles chart – a massive 214 weeks.

Party Venue

We can’t talk about last year’s events without giving you a mention. The majority of events at Franklin’s Gardens were put on by you. We worked alongside you to help you host an incredible event at our party venues – from weddings to birthday parties to your work’s Christmas party.

Our dedicated events team created a Christmas party package especially for 2019. Around 3,000 people overall attended a Christmas party at Franklin’s Garden in 2019. Hopefully, we can do the same this year too.

We curated two incredible event packages for our shared Christmas parties; disco and all-inclusive. Our shared parties are great for businesses big and small, and the two packages provide a lot of variety to choose from.

With our bars and catering options, we helped you all to have a night to remember. All our shared parties featured a live DJ who helped create an incredible atmosphere. Our team of caterers prepared and served a three-course set menu. We also spent weeks designing and decorating a room to have a themed Christmas function room, including crackers and all sorts of Christmas novelties.

Those were some of the highlights from our venue in Northampton last year. Thank you for reading this blog on Franklin’s Gardens events in 2019 – to find out more about our plans for 2020, get in touch with our team today.
