Team building while working from home

One of the most effective and quickest ways to increase cohesion in your business is with team building activities.

Dynamic and entertaining teambuilding ideas can lead to a more fun and productive work environment. This, of course, has been difficult during the lockdown period where people are being asked to work from home.

Can you organise team building activities at home? At Franklin’s Gardens, we believe the answer is yes. While team building games and exercises will have a greater impact in-person, team building at home still has benefits.

When it is safe to do so, don’t miss out on bringing your team together again. Organise a day-out at our team building venue – Franklin’s Gardens. You can reconnect and grow as a team when back out of the lockdown.

In this blog, we’re going to explore some team building ideas for while your business is working from home. Let’s get started:

Team building from Home

When trying to organise a team building at-home event, you will need to be adaptable. The most obvious thing to consider is that your team will all need to communicate via a video call. Choose a video calling platform that can accommodate your whole team. That way no one will miss out, which is crucial for team building activities.

A lot of team building ideas you will come across during research will be impossible during the lockdown. You will have to adapt the activities to be less physically driven. Try to focus more on communication challenges. These can still be fun and engaging, even if the only interaction your team has is through a video call.

Here are some team building ideas for while we’re still in lockdown:

QUIZZES

You may be sick of quizzes by now. But, we’d be remiss to not mention a quiz when talking about ideas for team building at home. For a lot of us, all we do on video calls is either work or a quiz. If you’re getting bored of quizzes, we’ve thought up some interesting rounds to switch things up for you…

One of the most fun quiz rounds is one with questions about everyone participating in the quiz. Make questions that involve your participants. This is a great way to create an engaging and fun quiz. An office trivia-focused quiz can break up the monotony we all feel during this lockdown period. An example of this is a baby picture round; where everyone has to guess whose baby picture is whose.

PARTY GAMES

A scavenger hunt or physical problem-solving games are not going to be possible. Replace these activities with verbal games and create a positive and fun work environment. One game you may be more used to playing at parties is two truths one lie.

The game is simple; say two truths about yourself and one lie. This gives people within your team the opportunity to come out of their shell. Team building at home should be about getting to know each other more. This game is perfect for this. It can be done in small groups or on a big call with your whole team of staff.

WHAT’S MY NAME?

One of the most iconic party games of all time. You can play what’s my name using an app over video calls. It’s the sort of game that has everybody laughing straight away, from the very first round. This game is perfect for creating a time where everyone has a laugh and de-stresses.

All you need is to download an app on your phone. Hold the phone on your head so that you can’t see the screen but everyone else can. The game will show the name of a celebrity and the person holding the phone gets to ask questions to try and guess who the celeb is.

Thank you for reading this blog on team building at home ideas. When it’s safe, book a team building day out for your staff at Franklin’s Gardens. This will allow you all to reconnect and develop new skills in a fun way.
